Traveling Vietnam Wall

Lake Travis was honored to host the traveling Vietnam Memorial. The wall was escorted by a black hawk helicopter, 100 or so motorcycles, and some veterans. Once they put it up it was a very cool experience. The exhibit had the wall as well as a 9/11 tribute, all the dog tags of the soldiers killed in the war on terror, a WWII exhibit, and a Fort Hood tribute.
The Vietnam wall has a special meaning to my family, my Great Uncle Don Hollingsworth was killed in Vietnam. He was 6 years older than my mom and one of her good friends. I have heard many stories about their childhood together as well as the story of the day they got the news. I wanted to take Savannah to the wall to tell her about her heritage and to pray for the soldiers and their families. It was very neat to see my daughter's little finger next to her Great Great Uncle's name.

Having grown up watching the reports on the nightly news and death toll rise every day, it still makes me misty eyed thinking about that terrible period in our history.

I love the goldfish pictures and the look on Savannah's face!
